ADN Editorial: Protest with guns not so bad

While we don't generally approve of firearms being present at a protest, Saturday's event at the intersection of 10th Street and White Sands Boulevard went off without a hitch. That says much about our community. People who attended were responsible with their guns. There were no reports of protesters antagonizing each other. More importantly, there were no arrests. The behavior of the Otero Tea Party Patriots and the Alamogordo Second Amendment Task Force, who both staged their protest at Alamogordo Airborne Memorial Park, as well as Obama supporters at Founders Park located diagonally from the tea partiers and the gun folks, was second to none. Many folks worried that Saturday's protest would turn into a Wild West-style shootout. Given the division between Republicans and Democrats these days, the scenario was a very likely one.
